My Views on Mobile Platform in Education

Hello Friends,

I have shared my thoughts on Mobile Platform usage in Education on PT's 17th year Celebration contest. And they have awarded me the first prize in that category, and I have added some great Management books in my small library.

I joined PT a month back. Great support from Faculties and Centre staff.

So , Here I would like to share my thoughts on Academics.
PT provides the best class room materials, Primer books are excellent , and excel sheets are always eye opener for preparation. With that PT provides the best online portal for education for students SRC, Daily news trivia, GK questions, Maths Puzzles, Highlights of the ongoing events.

Here is the point: All the time we may not get Computer to access this material.
So here are quick points which may help us (Students) to do more better.

So how many of the students in PT use mobile phones, I think 95%. How many of those mobiles equipped with GPRS or web supported or Java or J2ME application support. I think we can consider 60% of the ratio.

1. PT mobile site , for accessing the same content which we can access through website on desktop. [I have tried using on mobile, but it is not fully operational on all mobile phones. You can have wap site for the same content]

2. Offline Applications in Mobile - In which places you don't keep mobile with you?
( classroom, exam halls very few )
We carry mobile almost everywhere , everyday.

Why not have Flash Cards application in the Cell phone. Around 60% of the students have mobile phones which can support the Java or J2ME based applications.

Benefits for this is you can carry this application , everywhere and refer words any time. You can refer it from mobile while travelling , while eating breakfast or whatever convinent place you feel.

3. Formula or Tough Question Solutions - Same application Offline can be made for the students. To revise the maths formulas, tough sums based on those formulas with steps. More you think , finer you can produce such application.

4. Mobile Tests : Test application on the mobiles. Where we(Students) can have individual module, or chapter tests. Small vocab or foreign words test or whatever the medium complexity tests can be perfectly fit for mobiles.

5. Online application - A student can log in through application can download test and use it for offline purpose also. Or whenever the student come online he receives updated news or materials , word of the day, puzzle of the day all updated in single application on mobile.

According to me , the paces mobile technologies are evolving , are simply self explanatory. And with the introduction of 3G in India it will be boosted like anything.

Thanks for reading and spending your valuable time.
Regards,
Arpan
